Endogenic and Exogenic Forces

Endogenic and Exogenic Forces

The earth in its present form is because of the forces upon it both externally and internally. They are

  1. Exogenic forces
  2. Endogenic forces

EXOGENIC FORCES:-

  • They are forces impacting the earth’s surface by the elements of nature – Air, Water, ice. They are land weathering forces.

Sources of their energy

  • Atmosphere
  • Gravitation
  • Gradients

Their Impact:-

  • Weathering, erosion and deposition.

 Nature of impact:

  • Intensity varies from place to place depending upon on the type and structure of the rock. Eg:- Folds faults, lands etc .
  • Impact in the short term- Slow and small
  • Impact in the long term:- Huge due to fatigue caused in the long run.

ENDOGENIC FORCES:-

  • Forces impacting the earth from within are called endogenic forces. They are land building forces. Eg:- Diastrophism and volcanism.

Sources of their energy

  • Radio activity
  • Rotational movement of the earth
  • Tidal fiction
  • Primordial heat

      Nature of impact:

  • Energy due to geothermal gradients and heat flows from within causes diastrophism and volcanism in the lithosphere
  • Their impact is not uniform
  • Crustal surface is not even as a result.
