- Swachh Bharat programme = to address the centuries old practices on open defecation for major economic and health impacts
- Initiatives = (Swachh survekshan + Swachhagrahis + ODF+ nad ODF++)
- HOW ??? = need to look for both Infrastructure and behavioral change + behavioural change requires help of media and intra personal motivations through foot soldiers called swacchagrahis (grassroot level motivators) to trigger behavioral change + Infrastructure promoted should be twin pit latrine solution and septic tanks needed to be replaced +
- Behavioral change take long time and it is important that the campaign should sustain even after the ODF free status so as to prevent wheel turning into the opposite direction
- The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan-Grameen claims to have increased the percentage of the rural population with access to toilets from 39% in 2014 to almost 95% today. Overall, 503 districts and 24 States have been declared open defecation-free
