Q 16. Incinerators are used for which of the following?

  1. Burning wastes
  2. Putting wastes into them
  3. For cutting green trees
  4. For making fertilisers
Answer: Burning wastes

Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of organic substances contained in waste materials. Incineration and other high-temperature waste treatment systems are described as “thermal treatment”. Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue gas and heat.

Incineration reduces the mass of the waste from 95 to 96 percent. This reduction depends upon the recovery degree and composition of materials. This means that incineration however, does not replace the need for land filling but it reduced the amount to be thrown in it.
